Built in 1927 this vessel was in operation in the Port of Sagunto for many decades until it was retired and placed out of commission.
In 2022, VMG Refit & Repair was then charged with the challenge to restore it in honour of the Port of Sagunto’s maritime legacy. The initial inspection of the vessel revealed significant structural damage and considerable wear and tear over the years. The work required meticulous reconstruction of the hull, replacing structural components and the rehabilitation of the cabin. All the while maintaining and respecting the classic style and original design of the vessel.
After almost 2 years of painstakingly restoring the vessel, VMG Refit & Repair Shipyard officially finished the restoration and handed over the historical pilot boat “Virgen de Begoña” back to the town hall of Sagunto.
Today the pilot boat “Virgen de Begoña can be found at the roundabout of Jerónimo Roure and Adolfo Suárez Avenue, which now stand a symbol of Port of Sagunto’s industrial past.
